UNITE! For the green transformation of Ukrainian universities!

On the initiative of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology UNITE! invited seven universities of Ukraine to cooperate. They will implement the project “Green transformation in Ukrainian universities”, financed by the National Agency for Academic Exchanges.

The main goal of the project is to support the academic community of Ukraine through the involvement of partner institutions in regular events within the framework of UNITE! Erasmus+, in the workspace “An Open Innovation Community for the Green Transition”, the leader of which is our university. The second, no less important assumption is the establishment of permanent cooperation between Ukrainian universities and the “Unite!” network, which will contribute to the process of rebuilding the country after the end of the military conflict and will be an important step in the process of integration with the European Union.

“The implementation of the project is a milestone on the way of cooperation between the European University and universities from Ukraine,” says Prof. Arkadiusz Voys, rector of the Wroclaw University of Technology. “I am glad that the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology can play an important role in promoting cooperation between our Ukrainian colleagues and consortium, and therefore with partners from all over Europe. We perceive this action as a manifestation of solidarity with the Ukrainian academic community at this extremely difficult time.”

The network is represented by Andreas Winkler, General Secretary of Unite! The management of the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology will also take part in the meeting (January 25-28). Participants will develop and approve the work plan of the project.

“Cooperation with the academic community of Ukraine is a great opportunity for our alliance and has important political significance.” – says Andreas Winkler. – “Today’s meeting is also important because it will allow us to jointly discuss a plan for cooperation and support in the field of ecology and green transformation, which will be of key importance in the process of rebuilding Ukraine.”

The project is based on four main tasks.

The first of them is the development of green standards of Ukrainian universities in the field of education and scientific activity in the field of engineering and technical sciences and the development of their local version taking into account the specifics of Ukrainian universities.

The second task concerns the development of a green campus model and the implementation of standards in the field of scientific and pedagogical activities and campus functioning.

The next task is the implementation of the 2-week course “Green technologies for the development of Ukrainian society”, which will be attended, on the one hand, by students of Ukrainian universities, and on the other hand, by teachers of universities united in the Unite alliance. ! The course will cover issues from disciplines that will be applicable in the process of reconstruction and modernization of industry and infrastructure of Ukraine.

The last task is the development and implementation of a microcredit system for Ukrainian students in the field related to green transformation.

Our university will also participate in the project, which will be represented by the dean of our Faculty Doctor of science, prof. О. Filipenko, substitute dean, Ph.D., prof. О. Токарєва, and also deputy chief Department of Labor Protection H. Pronjuk.
