Did you know about this?
Did you know the rating of our university and the department in it? This is exactly what we will be talking about today!
On June 27, at the QS HES: Europe international summit in Dublin, the British company Quacquarelli Symonds presented the 20th edition of the flagship rating QS World University Rankings 2024. Despite the war and very difficult conditions, the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics entered the rating for the second time and took place in the group 1201-1400! By rating of Times High Education we took 1001-1200 place!
The QS WUR ranking has been published since 2004 and is one of the most authoritative global university rankings. This year’s QS World University Rankings is the largest ever, it includes 1,500 universities (among them 11 Ukrainian) from 104 countries, compared to 1,418 last year. The results of the ranking take into account the distribution and effectiveness of 17.5 million scientific publications published from 2017 to 2021, 141.6 million citations received by these publications, and are based on the expert opinions of more than 144,000 teachers and more than 98,000 employers.
As the organizers note, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the rating and in order to reflect the growth of data availability and changes in the priorities of students and society as a whole over the past two decades, QS has made the biggest methodological improvement since its inception. Three new metrics have been introduced: Sustainability, Employability Outcomes and International Research Network, and the weighting of existing indicators has been adjusted: Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation and Faculty-Student Ratio. That is, it is incorrect to compare the results with previous years. The new QS methodology is based on the following criteria: assessment of the academic community (30% weighting), responses from global business representatives (15%), the ratio of the number of teachers and students (10%), citations of publications in Scopus (20%), the share of foreign teachers ( 5%), share of foreign students (5%), international research network (5%), employment outcomes (5%), sustainable development (5%)).
QS Senior Vice President Ben Sowter said: “The new edition of the QS World University Rankings 2024 is an important step in the evolution of this ranking, in which we have introduced the most significant methodological innovations since its creation two decades ago. Like never before, the ranking aligns with the priorities of Gen Z and Alpha, giving universities a unique lens through which to assess their performance in areas that are key to shaping a brighter future for generations to come”.
